The 26 July 2024 issue of SCMR NewsBeat, the newsletter of the Society for Cardiovascular Magnetic Resonance, featured Hospital Sótero del Río in its “Meet CMR centers around the world” section. It is one of the centres where INCIC specialists perform and report cardiovascular magnetic resonance (CMR).

Founded in 1938, Sótero del Río is Chile’s largest public hospital, serving more than two million people. It has a 1.5 Tesla MRI scanner, a 128-slice cardiac CT system and a SPECT-CT, and is one of the few centres in the country offering comprehensive CMR for adults and children: 4D flow, imaging of patients with cardiac implants, stress CMR and parametric mapping.

Its multidisciplinary team performs around 900 CMR studies and 1,800 cardiac CT scans a year, has run a congenital heart disease programme since 2011, takes part in an inherited cardiac conditions clinic and trains cardiology and radiology fellows. According to the newsletter, the new hospital, then nearing completion, will substantially boost these capabilities.
