Javier López-Opitz and Hugo Martínez Fernández bring Chile's cardiac MRI experience to the SCMR world congress in Rio de Janeiro
Invited by the president of the Society for Cardiovascular Magnetic Resonance, the INCIC cardiologists spoke about the development of cardiac MRI in Chile at the SCMR 29th Annual Scientific Sessions.

Chile also has something to contribute to the international development of cardiac magnetic resonance. Cardiologists Dr. Javier López-Opitz and Dr. Hugo Martínez Fernández, cardiac imaging subspecialists at Clínica INDISA and INCIC members, were invited by the president of the Society for Cardiovascular Magnetic Resonance (SCMR), the specialty’s world society, to speak about the development of the technique in Chile at the SCMR 29th Annual Scientific Sessions, held from 4 to 7 February 2026 in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, under the theme “A Global Commitment to Cardiovascular Care”.
The invitation recognises more than a decade of work advancing cardiac MRI in the country. That work brought in advanced tools that are now part of clinical practice at INDISA: AI-assisted cardiac MRI, 4D Flow studies, stress MRI and safe protocols for patients with pacemakers.

As a result, the clinic has become a reference centre for cardiac imaging, receiving patients referred by cardiologists from across Chile who seek ever more precise diagnoses. The presence of both specialists at the leading world meeting on cardiovascular magnetic resonance confirms that innovation in this field is also being built from Chile.
