Aortic regurgitation beyond size: Julián Vega Adauy brings cardiac MR and 4D flow to the DIPRECA Hospital International Cardiology Course
At the VII International Cardiology Course of the DIPRECA Hospital Cardiovascular Center, held March 23–25, 2023 in Santiago, Chile, Dr. Julián Vega Adauy of INCIC gave the talk "CMR in aortic regurgitation: thinking beyond size".

Is measuring how much the left ventricle has dilated enough to understand aortic regurgitation? That question was behind the talk “CMR in aortic regurgitation: thinking beyond size” (“RMC en insuficiencia aórtica: pensando más allá del tamaño”), given by Dr. Julián Vega Adauy, cardiologist and cardiac imaging specialist at INCIC, at the VII International Cardiology Course of the Cardiovascular Center of DIPRECA Hospital (HOSDIP).
The course took place on March 23–25, 2023 in Santiago, Chile, with the Best Western Premier Marina hotel in Las Condes as its venue, over three days of cardiology updates.
In aortic regurgitation, follow-up and the decision to intervene have traditionally relied on left ventricular size and function. Cardiac magnetic resonance (CMR) adds direct measurement of flow across the valve, which makes it possible to quantify how much blood returns to the ventricle with each beat. With techniques such as 4D flow, the regurgitant jet and its effect on flow inside the ventricle can also be visualized in three dimensions.
Dr. Vega Adauy’s presentation showed these CMR tools applied to patients with aortic regurgitation, going beyond ventricular measurements to characterize the valve disease more precisely.
Dr. Vega Adauy’s participation reflects INCIC’s approach: putting advanced cardiovascular imaging at the service of each patient’s specific clinical questions.
